JAMES R. CARTER: Medical malpractice cases and product liability cases are extremely difficult technically. But they are also very difficult for me emotionally because if I have agreed to undertake the case, it becomes a matter of personal honor. Not only did I--my ego says I'm going to succeed, but that I have the opportunity to stand and obtain justice for someone who has been harmed and for whom nobody is accepting responsibility.
I've been a licensed attorney in Illinois since 1978. I tried my first medical negligence or malpractice case in 1984. One of the primary motivations for me to become a lawyer was my desire to help individuals. It requires hard work, dedication, and the willingness to stand toe to toe with people that are going to throw everything at you, including the kitchen sink.
I think I've shown over my career so far that not only am I willing to stand toe to toe, but I'm capable of dealing a knockout punch.
